Ephemeral Thoughts, Some Mechanism
From 2009 onwards, the poetic dialogue between texts and photographs became the most important feature of a still lasting stage of work,predominantly realized as photo-books and increasingly in video works. The book “40 Schritte“ (“40 Steps”, 2008) is the most literary. Apart from 40 photographs, it contains 40 short essays which often take up the visible existence in the respectively opposite picture. The story, the essay here constructs often only one relation, nearly as vague as the referential potential of the photographs, representing authenticity and credibility in co-operation with the text. He only succeeds in some places, evoking hope of consensus, but finally, however, “dis-illusion”.
The book “Flüchtige Gedanken, ein Mechanismus. [Propyleia]“ (“Ephemeral thoughts, some mechanism. [Propyleia]”), published in 2009, contains the most essentially formal features with regard to the contents, determining his work in the following years until 2011: In the book, 30 texts are arranged in respective opposition to 90 photographs. Text boards, seeming to be matter-of-fact comments, do not deliver to that promise at all. The contents comprise intermediate states, vagueness as transparency, thinking as comprehensible lack of understanding.
